Ridgeland, South Carolina has been called the Heart of the Lowcountry for several reasons. First of all the people who live here are genuinely friendly. Don't be surprised when people you have never seen before bid you the greeting of the day while walking down the street or wave at you from their cars.
It also is the Heart of the Lowcountry because it is centrally located to all the famous sites people want to see and all the wonderful things people want to do while visiting in the Lowcountry. And last, but for many certainly not least, Ridgeland is known as the Heart of the Lowcountry because people come from all over the world to get married here.
Events
Gopher Hill Festival
Held in September, the Gopher Hill Festival is held in the newly renovated downtown district. The festival has now grown to a five day event including: History of the Hill night, Family Fun night with the Pink Tub Races, Street Dance night, and Southern Sunday. And Gopher Hill Day is still celebrated on Saturday beginning with a parade and followed by an entire day of Gopher burgers, Turtle juice, and Turtle races.

Outdoors
Ridgeland is a virtual sportsman's paradise. The area has a number of hunting clubs, many of which are headquartered in grand plantation houses. All around, both freshwater and saltwater fishing abound. Go shrimping or crabbing in the Atlantic, or hook a fish in the Savannah or Broad Rivers. Go hiking, picnicking, canoeing, or kayaking, or just relax with the family at a playground (with or without a spray pool) or community barbecue. Strap on your skates or break out your board and visit Ridgeland's own skate park. And it wouldn't be South Carolina without world-class, year-round golf.
