Annual Independence Day Festival in St. Marys
Held on the 4th of July each year, this event is hosted by the Kiwanis Club. This festival celebrates our nation's independence. Festival includes: 5k/10k races, parade, food concessions, entertainment, arts & crafts booths, and a spectacular fireworks display over the St. Marys River at dusk. Ph: 912-882-4000
Rock Shrimp Festival in St. Marys
Held the 1st Saturday in October and hosted by Kiwanis Club, this festival includes 5k/10k races, parade, entertainment, street dance, food concessions, arts and crafts booths and rock shrimp dinners. Ph: 912-882-4000
St. Marys Merchants Christmas Open House
On the 2nd Tuesday in November, the time comes to do your Christmas Shopping in the historic district. Most of the merchants will be open until 9 p.m., including the Submarine Museum. St. Marys Downtown Development Authority, ph: 912-882-8111
St. Marys White Light Ceremony
On 1st Tuesday after Thanksgiving, this is the chance to go Christmas Caroling and to meet Santa. The city sets up about a billion white lights and turn them on as Santa comes down Osborne St., St. Marys Downtown Development Authority, ph: 912-882-8111
Area Attractions
Cumberland Island
Take the short ferry ride out to this unspoiled island and you'll feel as if you have stepped back in time. On this national seashore, it is the animals that rule, and the people are only visitors. Wild horses run free through the marshes and the windswept dunes, while the inland forests shelter deer, alligator, armadillo, and mink. Visitors can also explore the ruins of the once magnificent Carnegie Estate, Dungeness.
St. Marys Submarine Museum
Military buffs and people just fascinated by adventures undersea won't want to miss the St. Marys Submarine Museum. Both residents and visitors to Kingsland and St. Marys are fascinated by the local Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base, the Atlantic coast home of Trident nuclear submarines and the museum is the perfect way to learn more about how these amazing underwater machines work. The museum houses more than 3,500 items, including models, photographs, written histories, and artifacts. It also contains a working periscope, through which visitors may view the surrounding area.
Orange Hall House Museum
The Grand Dame of St. Marys, Orange Hall is an extraordinary example antebellum life in Greek Revival dating back to circa 1820s-1830s. She reigns in grandeur as you make your entrance into the historic district of Downtown St. Marys and serves as a house museum with tours seven days a week. History buffs or those who simply appreciate architectural beauty will enjoy a tour through this elegant structure.
St. Marys Family Aquatic Center
Celebrate the summer months at this 7 acre mega-fun park! Adults can relax in a tube as they float around the park in the endless river, or get fit with a refreshing swim in the lap pool. For kids' thrills (four feet and over) there's a 2 story slide full of exhilarating twists and turns. The big attraction for the little ones in the playpool where play pals find dozens of ways to squirt, spray and splatter.

Lang's Marina
Boaters love the special ambience that St. Marys' waterfront offers and often stay overnight at Lang's Marina where they find fuel and provisions, running water, electricity and shower facilities - all just steps from the vibrant dining and entertainment venues along the waterfront.
Okefenokee Wildlife Refuge
Take a short drive west of Kingsland and find yourself in a world where boats are the main form of transportation. Okefenokee, an Indian name meaning Land of the Trembling Earth, is a vast wetland area encompassing around 400,000 acres of canals and moss-draped cypress trees. Visitors to the refuge can enjoy guided boat tours or paddle their own boats as they encounter the hundreds of species of plant and animal life, including the often-photographed alligators, which call the Okefenokee home. Fishing, camping, picnicking, and bike rentals are also available.
Crooked River State Park
Located a few miles east of the city, this state park offers plenty of opportunities to get back to nature. Fisherman can be seen at the boat ramp before dawn, getting ready to make the catch of the day. Later on, hikers take to the 1.5-mile nature trail or venture out to the ruins of the McIntosh Sugar Works. Tent, trailer, and RV sites as well as cottages are available.
